Charlie Higson - Renowned UK author in NZ this May

Charlie Higson is the author of the phenomenally successful Young Bond series which has now sold over a million copies in the UK and has been translated into 24 different languages.

A man of many talents, Charlie is a successful actor, comedian and writer for television and radio, and has been writing books for children since 2005. The Young Bond series started with SilverFin and was followed by Blood Fever, Double or Die, Hurricane Gold and By Royal Command. The Enemy (the first in a new series) was released in New Zealand, September 2009. The Dead is due for release here, October 2010.

Charlie has always been a fan of ‘70s and ‘80s horror. While at university he studied gothic literature, a film course on horror and wrote a dissertation on David Cronenberg, as well as putting on all night horror movie showings.

After studying at the University of East Anglia, Charlie formed a band, The Higsons. He then became a decorator before turning to the world of television and going into partnership with his friend Paul Whitehouse. His successes include Saturday Live, The Harry Enfield Television Programme, The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer, Shooting Stars, Randall and Hopkirk Deceased, the film Suite 16, Swiss Toni, and of course, The Fast Show.

In 2006, Charlie and Paul Whitehouse co-produced the controversial and award-winning spoof radio series Down the Line for BBC Radio 4, in which they also both performed. They start filming a television series inspired by Down the Line for BBC Two later this year.

Charlie Higson will be appearing at the Auckland Writers & Readers Festival in May and, as part of the PUFFIN 70th birthday celebrations. He will be in Wellington, NZ for school events on Friday 14th May 2010.
