Two free workshops for writers & publishers

WHK Gosling Chapman and NZTE have teamed together to provide these two workshops for writers and publishers - Business Planning – 3 April and Small Business Tax Workshop – 8 April. Both workshops are at the Papillon Room, Butterfly Creek, Tom Pearce Drive, Auckland International Airport

Business Planning Workshop - 3 April 2008

This workshop will give individuals the practical tools and techniques to develop effective and achievable goals and business plans to ensure success.
• Integrating personal goals with the goals of the business
• Creating Big Hairy Audacious Goals for your business
• The business planning process: Where we are now, where do we want to be and how do we get there?
• SWOT analysis
• Identifying your competitive advantage and growth strategies
• How operational plans such as: Human resources, marketing, production, finance, information technology, innovation etc relate to your overall business plan
• Worked examples, plus time to work on your own goals and plan

Small Business Tax Workshop 8 April 2008

This half day workshop is to assist professional writers and those working in the publishing sector to understand tax compliance.
• Payments
• How to deal with Royalty payments
• Tax that will be deducted as "withholding tax"
• Works of reference and travel - are they deductible?
• Motor Vehicle Expenses
• Home Office Expenses
• Use of Company & Trusts - including discussion around business structures and the dvantages/disadvantages of sole traders/company etc
• IRD - useful tools available, tips and online filing options
