MUDFLATS & OYSTERS

This was the name given to the first session I got to attend on Saturday morning at the 12th annual Going West Books & Writers Festival at Titirangi.

It featured Stanley Palmer who the programme informed us “ is a highly revered painter and printmaker whose works hang in homes, public buildings and galleries throughout New Zealand”. Palmer was “in conversation” with Auckland curator Linda Tyler.

We learned that for the first time Palmer has turned to written as well as visual art in a children’s picture book with a most impressive collection of paintings based on his childhood memories of holidays on the Manukau Harbour.

The book TO THE HARBOUR is published by Lopdell House Gallery where an exhibition of the paintings (monoprints) can be viewed until October 7.
More about the book in a posting later today.
