THE HEDLEY DYNASTY

David Hedley proved to be a most fascinating interviewee on Kim Hill’s highly-rated Saturday Morning programme on Radio New Zealand National.
I hope many of you got to hear it.

And what a dark horse he proves to be, enjoying the friendship of the late George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Bill Wyman, Joe Brown and any number of other major figures from the world of rock music.
These friendships developed as a result of David publishing BLINDS & SHUTTERS and the their existence was prised out of the ever-modest Hedley by Hill during a lengthy interview that had me riveted to the car radio as I made my way across Auckland and up in to the gorgeous Waitakere township of Titirangi for the annual Going West Books & Writers Festival.

There was also time for Hedley to talk about his joy in being a bookseller and the centennial celebrations for Hedleys Bookshop in Masterton. It has been in continuous family ownership through three generations with David now carrying the mantle, or wearing the crown if you agree with Hill’s comment that it could now justifiably be called the Hedley Dynasty
